ABOUT ISHINCA

Nevado Ishinca is located in the valley that bears its same name, Ishinca. It is undoubtedly one of the most visited snow peaks in the Cordillera Blanca. Although seen from other peaks it looks small because it stands among the enormous peaks of the range, it is a perfect mountain to acclimatize before climbing another 6,000 m or technical peak. It is important to mention that it does not require much experience or technical equipment for its ascent.

Huaraz (3,100 m) – Collón (3,450 m) – Base Camp (4,350 m)

Departure from Huaraz after breakfast by private transport heading northeast of Huaraz to reach the village of Collón, from where we will start walking toward the Ishinca base camp, passing through native queñua trees. Higher up you will be able to see the Tocllaraju (6,034 m) and Palcaraju (6,274 m) snow peaks, and the base camp, where we will spend the night.

Hiking time: approximately 4 – 5 hours.

Day 2

Base Camp (4,350 m) – Ishinca Summit (5,530 m) – Base Camp (4,350 m)

We will begin the ascent very early, around 2:00 am, hiking along a zigzag trail to the tongue of the glacier, already with all the climbing gear. Then we will continue to the summit, from where you can see many six-thousanders such as Ranrapalca, Palcaraju, Pucaranra, Copa and Tocllaraju. After resting a little and taking some photos, we will return to camp descending by the same route we climbed.

Ascent and descent time: approximately 10 hours.
